Nourish The Temptation

I decided to launch a brand…

Recipes | October 6, 2018 | By

Maybe it’s because I’ve been listening to “how I build this” every morning for the last 4 months, as I drive to work, or maybe it’s my over active brain trying to focus its energy on one project for once. About 8 weeks ago while sitting at a Starbucks in bank, I decided I was going to launch a business…. And we’ve been live for just over a month.

I’d seen beeswax wraps beginning to creep up on my Instagram feed, and had started making them just for fun. With the ever-pressing issue of too much plastic in the world, and my growing obsession with declining bee numbers in London and, it seems like all the pieces had suddenly fallen together. An cartoon actual lightbulb moment!

After 20 minutes bout of word diarrhoea onto a Microsoft doc (we’ll call that a “business plan” for now), I was good to go.

In true Anna fashion, I didn’t waste any time and I was ordering fabrics, waxes, packaging and so on. As all the packages stated arriving at my house, it suddenly began to dawn on me that firstl; I had pumped money into this and had to find a way to get a return; secondly, I had told everyone I knew that I was doing this, so I better deliver.

Within a week I had a name, a vision and a Canva account (this site is actual magic for anyone with no graphic designs experience!!). A few days after that I made it Instagram official with my fancy coming soon graphics.

Knowing myself, and the amount of times I don’t follow through on ideas I have, I knew that jumping in head first, and sprinting so far ahead I couldn’t turn back, was the only way.

Things I’ve learnt so far:

1) Nothing quite matches the sheer happiness you feel when a stranger first places an order, followed by actual terror when you realise your product is heading out into the big bad world of reviews and criticism.

2) It really helps to have friends who run business. One dinner with them, asking you casual questions, will help you realize how many things you didn’t think of…. like checking what % websites take for each sale and its actually factor that into your fool proof excel model (duhhh).

3) I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve woken up at 3am and fumbled in the dark for my phone, to make a note of some of my best idea. Weird!! But also reassuring to know how productive my brain is while I sleep, considering how many hours I love to do it for. Ps As in writing this it’s currently 3:47am

4) Cutting fabric with pinning scissors is harder than the YouTube tutorial lady said it would be!

I now have a million and one ideas swirling in my head about what’s next, but I’m trying to plan then next steps with a little more time. For starters, I’ve actually asked someone to proof read my material before sending to print, go Anna! New product to be revealed shortly.

Radish & Asparagus Salad

Recipes | April 20, 2018 | By

This is spring in a bowl. Asparagus and radishes are in season at the moment, so they taste absolutely delicious. With Produce this good you really don’t need to over complicate it with heavy dressings. Lemon and olive oil always work best!

Raspberry & Almond Butter Chickpea Brownies.

Dessert, Recipes | January 28, 2018 | By

Excuse the extra long title, there are a lot of amazing aspects of these brownies i wanted to call out. Firstly, these beauties are made with no flour! the bulk of the batter is actually chickpea. Apart from being super healthy and packed with fibre, folate and iron and protein, it also makes the brownies creamy and moist.

As if that wasn’t enough, i also added a raspberry and almond butter cream in the middle 🙂

Marbled Matcha Loaf

Breakfast, Dessert | January 28, 2018 | By

Marbled matcha loaf anyone? This is so amazing with a bit of chocolate spread or even some almond butter (or both) . It’s jam packed with sunflower & pumpkin seeds meaning it’s is packed with those essential fats and it keeps you feeling full after one slice. such a great loaf to have in the morning! it’ll keep for a few days in an airtight container, so you can make it at the start of the week and have breakfast sorted.

Raspberry & Coconut Oat Cookies

Breakfast, Dessert, Recipes | January 17, 2018 | By

Whether it’s breakfast on the go or a bed time snack (and everything in between) these cookies fit the bill. the raspberries add a freshness that is so delicious and different from other  bakes i’ve made. Plus, they are so easy to whip up! there aren;t many rules, so if you don’t have any raspberries on hand, see what else you can chuck in instead.

Spinach & Mushroom pancake stack

Breakfast, Lunch, Recipes | November 15, 2017 | By

When i made these, it was for breakfast, but you could enjoy them at any time of the day. Shitki mushrooms are my favourite at the moment, but any mushrooms would work for this! I love adding spinach to pancake batter because it turns them such a beautiful colour.  Its a great way to add more veggies into your day while still eating delicious food.

Double Chocolate Raspberry Muffins

Breakfast, Dessert, Recipes | November 11, 2017 | By

There is nothing better then freshly baked muffins and i’ve been craving muffins all week. i recently bought buckwheat flakes in a sample sale for the first time and had no idea what to do with them other then use them as porridge (but thats not exciting). So i decided to chuck them in to a rough muffin batter  and turn them into delicious chocolaty muffins. They really help to bulk them out and make them a lot more filling then just using flour.
